Requisitos

Personal requirements: 

The role-holder will require the following knowledge, skills and attributes for successful performance in the role. Qualifications:

  • Excellent academic record and have completed a Ph.D. in Political Science. 
  • A strong record of academic publications, relative to career stage, in peer-reviewed international journals and/or other publications of recognized originality and value. 
  • Previous teaching experience, with the ability to teach in Comparative Politics and engage students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as contribute to interdisciplinary teaching initiatives. 

Knowledge & Experience 

The successful candidate will be expected to clearly demonstrate the following: 

Teaching 

  • Demonstrated potential or experience in teaching and supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as developing new modules and teaching material. 
  • Demonstrated potential or experience in teaching across a variety of class sizes and formats, with an openness to engaging large lecture settings, smaller interactive groups, and e-learning or online teaching methods. 
  • Flexibility and enthusiasm to teach foundational courses, such as Introduction to Political Science, and to engage with topics beyond one’s primary area of expertise. 
  • An ability to teach research design at both undergraduate and postgraduate/MSc level is highly desirable. 
  • Evidence of personal contribution and commitment to excellence in teaching; 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

Research & Scholarship 

  • An emerging record of research relevant to Comparative Politics, with flexibility across subfields within the discipline. 
  • Evidence of research achievement, relative to career stage, in the form of publications in high impact peer-reviewed international journals. 
  • Ability to supervise research projects and mentor graduate students.
  • Evidence of a strategic research plan that outlines a trajectory of research excellence, with a record of external funding or clear potential to attract research funding, depending on career stage. 

Administration, Contribution to University and Engagement with Discipline & Society 

  • Ability to undertake administrative responsibilities as required by the Discipline, School and University. 
  • Ability to represent the School and University on appropriate national and international advisory boards and professional bodies. 
  • Organisational skills necessary to the performance of teaching, research and administration requirements of the role of Assistant Professor. 

Skills 

  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills. 
  • Planning and organisational skills, particularly coordinating processes and systems. 
  • Ability to represent the School and College on appropriate national and international advisory boards and professional bodies. 
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team. 

Personal attributes 

  • Capability and confidence to take ownership of problems and seek long term solutions. 
  • Career driven, enthusiastic and motivated. 
  • Commitment to own professional development

4. Teaching statement – 2 x A4 pages maximum. This statement should include a discussion of the applicant’s capacity to teach on current modules in the department (Undergraduate, MSc International Politics, or MSc Data Science) and a discussion of additional modules that could be provided.
