Full Professor in Comparative Politics – University of Bremen

Organismo: University of Bremen

Requisitos

We welcome your application if you hold a university degree and an above-average doctorate in Political Science. Promising applicants will have demonstrated exceptional aptitude for research and teaching, usually by means of a habilitation or equivalent qualifications (gained, for example, as a junior professor). The appointment will be made in accordance with §18 BremHG and §116 BremBG. Very good German and English language skills are a prerequisite for hiring, in order to conduct courses and exams in both languages.

Committed to implementing its diversity strategy on all levels, the University of Bremen aims to increase the diversity of its faculty and staff and the variety of perspectives on campus. We actively seek to increase the share of women in leadership positions and strongly encourage female scholars to apply. When assessing candidates’ academic performance, we will of course factor in their academic age, as well as any career breaks. In case of substantially equal professional and personal qualifications, candidates with severe disabilities will be given preferential consideration.

We kindly ask you to include documentation of the following

  • educational background and academic career path: Curriculum vitae, diplomas, references, and, if applicable, certificates of your appointment as a professor (please attach a German or English translation if the certificate of appointment is in a language other than German or English)
  • research accomplishments: list of publications, overview of acquired third-party funding, research collaborations, and ongoing research projects
  • teaching experience and philosophy: teaching portfolio including 1-2 exemplary teaching concepts, a substantive selection of teaching evaluations, and evidence of your pedagogical and didactic aptitude.

The successful candidate will have a record of outstanding research accomplishments as evidenced by high-profile publications and successful acquisitions of competitive external funding. They will also demonstrate pedagogical aptitude and broad experience in teaching. Applicants should be well connected within the scientific community, both on the national and international level, and should be experienced academic leaders with strong social skills, and a background in supervising early career researchers.

As the University of Bremen considers research and teaching to be inextricably linked, we are strongly committed to research-based learning. Teaching duties include taking on a teaching load of 9 course hours per semester in the Bachelor’s degree programme in Political Science (module «Introduction to Comparative Politics») and in the Master’s degree programmes in Political Science and Social Policy. We encourage our professors to be easily accessible to students, provide them with eye-level support, and to pursue a student-centered teaching approach. Applicants should be willing to undergo further didactic and media-based teaching training and actively participate in the development of our teaching profile and degree programs. This position will cover the breadth of Comparative Politics in all degree programs. Furthermore, we ask you to substantiate your commitment to designing teaching with sensitivity towards gender and diversity issues.

Candidates will be a particularly good fit for our faculty if they are keen on interdisciplinary exchange and collaboration. Excellent opportunities for such collaboration exist, among others, within the university’s high-profile area Social Change, Social Policy and Government. We would be delighted if you also share our commitment to a culture of sustainability, e.g., by addressing the societal, ecological, and technological challenges of our time in your research, teaching, and outreach activities. We anticipate that the future professor will confidently engage in building bridges between academia and society. Candidates should hence be experienced science communicators who enjoy making their research results accessible to a broader public. They should cultivate a cooperative, team-oriented style of working and play an active role in academic self-governance. Thus, experience in faculty/institute management is an asset, as are science-policy connections.
