Fully-funded PhD position (4 years) in International Relations – University of Groningen

Requisitos: 

• A Research Master’s or Master’s degree in any area related to the project, such as Political Science, International Relations, Data Science, Social Sciences or a related discipline 
• Excellent academic writing skills in English 
• Have some experience with quantitative methods and statistical software like R, STATA, Python or similar 
• Be enthusiastic about writing international, prestigious academic publications 
• Dutch language is not required. 

The following would be assets for prospective candidates: 

• Experience with big data approaches and/or experimental methods. 
• Familiarity with different theories and methods to study political violence. 
• Relevant peer-reviewed academic publications in Political Science journals.

Solicitudes:

Applications should be made in English and contain the following materials: 

• A short cover letter (ca. 500 words), explaining your motivation for applying. 
• A research proposal of max 1000 words, explaining the research you propose in relation to the wider framework of this project. 
• A curriculum vitae. 
• Copies of MA diploma, list of grades, and thesis (in case the candidate did not finish their thesis yet, a statement by the supervisor stating that the candidate will finish their thesis by August 2025). 
• A writing sample (e.g. a published paper, a chapter from the M.A. thesis). 
• Contact details of two academic referees (no letters of recommendation are needed for the application process). Requests for letters will be sent for short-listed candidates after April 30th and are expected to be provided by May 11th. In case your MA degree is not in English, please include a language certificate.
