Requisitos:
an excellent academic record and have completed or be close to completion of a PhD in political science.
Knowledge & Experience
The successful candidate will be expected to clearly demonstrate the following:
Research, Essential
• potential to establish a strong record of research and publication in the broad area of data science and political science. The successful applicant will have a strong track record of using methods in machine learning and data science. This includes a proficiency in the Python and/or R programming languages;
• ability or potential to attract external research funding.
Research, Desirable
• research in areas and/or using approaches that complement existing staff research profiles;
• proven research skills in the areas of quantitative text analysis, automated image processing, network analysis, statistical forecasting, and/or other data science-related research tools;
• a publication record in international journals.
Teaching, Essential
• capacity to teach successfully at undergraduate and postgraduate level in the area of data science;
• ability to teach courses covering applications of machine learning methods in political science at both undergraduate and postgraduate level;
• ability to take a leading role in teaching in the department’s Applied Social Data Science postgraduate programme (PGDip and MSc);
• capacity to teach successfully at undergraduate and postgraduate level on in least one substantive subfield in political science (e.g., comparative politics, international relations, or political communication);
• capacity to teach modules (with large or small student numbers) on a variety of topics and in a variety of formats, and with a flexibility in accordance with the Department’s needs;
• capacity to develop new courses and teaching material.
Teaching, Desirable
• ability to teach modules in research design or research methods at the undergraduate or postgraduate level;
• experience of teaching undergraduate modules as lead instructor;
• evidence (recognition, awards) of outstanding teaching commitment and experience;
• experience of supervising undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations;
• experience of developing new modules and teaching material;
• experience of using new teaching media;
• potential for recruiting and supervising research postgraduate students.
Administration, Essential
• excellent organisational and administrative skills;
• a commitment to student care.
Administration, Desirable
• experience organizing research seminars, recruitment initiatives and other activities.
Skills
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills.
• Planning and organisational skills, particularly coordinating processes and systems.
• Ability to work effectively as member of a team.
